Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Equips Every Training Room With SMART Board™ Interactive Whiteboards

SMART products result in tangible savings

Calgary, AB --- December 1, 2003 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces the recent installation of SMART Board 580 interactive whiteboards at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard’s training center in Hawaii. This recent installation by SMART reseller Audio Visual Co. brings the total number of SMART Board interactive whiteboards at the training center to 56 and equips every training room at the shipyard with a SMART product.

The training arm of the Production Resources Department at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard gives three types of training: apprentice training that teaches beginners 22 different trades, skills training to upgrade the skills of those practicing the trades and specialized training for preparing personnel to repair state-of-the-art Navy submarines. Prior to the introduction of SMART Board interactive whiteboards in November 2002, instructors would prepare slide transparencies and use overhead projectors to show the content to students. Now, instructors use SMART Board interactive whiteboards to access Web sites and show PowerPoint® presentations, using their finger as a mouse to advance slides. They pick up a pen from the SMART Pen Tray to write notes and annotate over slides and Web sites to supplement information contained in their presentations.

“Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard plays a key support role for the United States Navy,” says Nancy Knowlton, president and co-CEO of SMART. “We are honored to be playing a part in preparing a skilled workforce for the shipyard.”
